Hi there Lauren

I'm working on a soundtrack for a book (of drawings/photos etc) that I published this autumn, I would love to include your quote "
Sometimes you can tell a better truth by lying, basically, by tweaking the truth to
get more into the anxiety of the moment" in it. And even better to have you recorded saying it. Drop me a line and I will tell you more about it, or if you just want to say no thanks. You can check out a few pages from the book on my website. Thanks / Jonas Liveröd - Sweden

Hey Lauren!
I had you for pre-college cartooning just this past summer and loved it! I came all the way from Canada. Picked up Goddess of War while in NY and thought it was really great (made me laugh)! And when I got back home it was in quite a few shops here!
I sent you an e-mail through my sva e-mail account (As well as Keith). I hope you got it!

Hey Lauren,

That's so cool that you're from Brookline! I didn't know anyone from here was into cartooning! (Well, aside from recent BHS grad Zoe Abbett who self-publishes a great comic called "Z-Boy." I picked up her first two issues at New England Comics in Coolidge Corner.)

I didn't grow up in Brookline, but I've been inside BHS a bunch of times (as a former volunteer for Brookline Access Television). The quad really is nice, isn't it? I've only seen it during graduation ceremonies.

So it was the movie theater parking lot! I didn't know it was a "sk8ter" hangout. Wow, the Ground Round -- how long has it been since you've been home? The Ground Round was replaced by Applebee's a couple years ago. The Cleveland Circle movie theater recently closed, too, after 40 years of business, soon to make way for luxury condominiums.

By the way, I went to Comicopia in Kenmore Square yesterday and bought Girl Stories -- yay! It's a lot of fun, reminds me of the same difficult teenage years my sister Susie and I lived through in Princeton, NJ. The first page says you lived on Lincoln -- does that mean you went to Pierce, near the public library and town hall? Gee, I have so many Brookline questions for you, but I won't clutter your blog with them. I'll write again after I finish reading your book. :-)

Sincerely,
Bill

Hi Bill,
Yes you are very perceptive! I did grow up in Brookline, and I'm working on another book about going to Brookline High right now. A couple years ago I snuck into BHS over the summer to take pictures and I was awed by how beautiful the quad was with no students in it.
You totally figured out the parking lot behind the movie theater! Is the Ground Round still there?

Lauren,

Did you grow up in Brookline, MA? I just read the excerpt from Girl Stories in The Best American Comics 2007. The Cleveland Circle parking lot in "Skate Date" seems awfully familiar. (You mean behind the movie theater?) I live on Kilsyth Road in Brookline, not far from Cleveland Circle. Anyway, I like your work and look forward to reading more.

Sincerely,
Bill
