I have started doing a semi-regular comic strip for the Village Voice... On stands now before print media vanishes forever!

Here are some sketches I did while attending the Women's March in DC.  The rest of the story is published here...

Here's a piece I did for Resist! a newspaper guest edited by Françoise Mouly, art editor of The New Yorker, and writer Nadja Spiegelman. It will be handed out for free at the Women's March on Washington.

Here is a comic I originally did for The Guardian about trying to remember things for your child even if they aren't always true. It is in a slightly more phone-friendly format.

Nautil.us assigned me a piece about Alzheimer's Caregiver Stress.  I interviewed Meryl Comer, who was such an eloquent, inspiring person.  In the process of researching, I became consumed by the issue. As the Baby Boomers age, my generation will have to bear the brunt.  See the rest of the comic here.

I have done many illustrations.  Clients include: The New York Times, Nautil.us, Fantagraphics, and McSweeney's. 

This year I got some serious neck surgery.  I made a comic about recovering which originally ran at The Paris Review.

Nautil.us gave me a chance to follow around MacArthur Genius Danielle Bassett at her lab and see her groundbreaking work on watching people learn.

Here are two comics that unfortunately were inspired by the film, Frozen.  First predictions for Frozen 2, by children, that originally ran on The Nib.  The second, a comic about getting through the first week of Kindergarten originally run on Mutha magazine.

From 1998-2001 I had a strip in Seattle's The Stranger.  I had no idea what I was doing, but it was fun.  These were the results.

Once I went crazy and decided to throw everything I was interested in: war history, mythology, etchings, sci-fi, and drawing big into one large format comic.The result was  The Goddess of War , published by the beloved Picturebox in 2008.  

I have been working on and off on a graphic memoir for Henry Holt.  Here is a practice page....

Sometimes you do a piece of work that changes the way you think about how you're going to make everything for the rest of your life.  This was that piece for me. Comics didn't have to be about panels, narrative could flow across the page....

I illustrated this piece that was written by my husband Timothy Hodler, for Nature Comics (a short-lived comic book funded by PBS).  It was heartbreaking to research the decline of the frogs.  Imagine, little long-tunged beings who breathe through their skin, being suffocated by a fungal disease.  It is real.
